ZSUS 10.5-Inch Portable Monitor Review: Do You Really Need a Tiny Second Screen?

There are plenty of portable monitors on the market, but most of them follow a familiar formula: make the screen as large as possible while keeping the body reasonably thin.

The ZSUS 10.5-inch portable monitor takes a different approach.

It is small enough to feel almost like an oversized tablet, yet it can be used as a second display for a laptop, a portable screen for a game console, or even an additional display for a phone.

At the current price of $44.66, I think the more interesting question isn’t whether it can replace a normal monitor.

It obviously can’t.

The real question is: does having a tiny screen like this make everyday digital life more convenient?

Small Enough to Actually Carry Around

The first advantage of this monitor is obvious: size.

A 10.5-inch screen is much smaller than the typical 14- or 15.6-inch portable monitor, which makes the ZSUS much easier to fit into a backpack.

That makes it interesting for people who travel frequently or work away from a fixed desk.

Instead of carrying a large second monitor, you can throw this one into a bag and only take it out when you actually need more screen space.

And that’s probably where I see the most value.

I wouldn’t buy a portable monitor like this because I want a better main display. I’d buy it because there are times when one screen simply isn’t enough.

A Surprisingly Useful Second Screen

For laptop users, this kind of monitor can be much more useful than the specifications suggest.

You can keep a browser, chat window, music player, reference material, or notes on the smaller display while using the main laptop screen for your actual work.

The 15:10 aspect ratio also gives it a slightly different shape from the more common widescreen portable displays.

The listing advertises 1280P resolution and 100% sRGB, making it suitable for everyday work, browsing, video and general entertainment. I would still treat those figures as product-listing specifications rather than professional color-monitor measurements.

It Is Also a Portable Gaming Screen

This is probably the most interesting part for gamers.

The monitor can be connected to PS4, PS5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch through Mini HDMI, according to its documentation. Console use generally requires separate external power for the display.

This makes a lot of sense for travel.

Imagine staying in a hotel where the TV isn’t convenient, or bringing a Switch somewhere without wanting to depend on whatever screen happens to be available.

A 10.5-inch display isn’t going to give you the immersive experience of a 27-inch gaming monitor, but that’s not really the point.

It’s portable.

And portability is the feature you are actually paying for.

USB-C Makes It More Flexible

The monitor can also work with compatible USB-C devices, including smartphones that support video output.

However, this is one area where users should pay attention to compatibility. Some phones may not provide enough power to run the display on their own, and the manual notes that external power may be necessary.

So I wouldn’t buy this expecting every phone to work with a single USB-C cable.

It’s more accurate to think of USB-C as another useful connection option rather than a guarantee of universal compatibility.

Who Is This Monitor Actually For?

  • This is where I think the ZSUS makes the most sense.
  • It isn’t really competing with your main desktop monitor.
  • It is competing with having no second screen at all.
  • For me, the most interesting users are:
  • Laptop users who occasionally need a second display.
  • Travelers who want a small gaming or entertainment screen.
  • Nintendo Switch / PS5 / Xbox users who want a portable display.
  • People with limited desk space who don’t want another large monitor permanently sitting on the desk.

That’s a much more realistic way to look at this product.

Final Thoughts

The ZSUS 10.5-inch portable monitor is a good example of a product that becomes more interesting when you stop looking at the specification sheet.

Its biggest strength isn’t the resolution, color coverage, or list of supported devices.

It’s simply the fact that you can take another screen with you without carrying another large piece of hardware.

At $44.66, I think that’s the real appeal.

It won’t replace a proper gaming monitor, and I wouldn’t expect it to. But as a compact second screen for travel, work, or console gaming, the ZSUS is an interesting little gadget.

Sometimes a product doesn’t need to be better than what you already own.

It just needs to solve a problem that your current setup can’t.
